oh hello world, i'm all cheery and sunshiney now because i am done with 4 of my 5 final exams. in fact i did 2 yesterday; both of which went fantabulously well. the last one is on wednesday which gives me 4 wonderfully-fantastic days to study for! (: i am super duper happy too because my big brother ryan and jo brought me DURIAN ICE CREAM two nights ago! unfortunately, it still sits quietly in my noisy freezer waiting for the end of exams. this entire tub of durian ice cream will be my little treat for finishing 5 modules in winter.
this is a lesson for everyone:
NEVER TAKE 5 CLASSES IN WINTER.every student i know did not take 5 classes in winter. or if they did start with 5, they never finished with them. and some (more than 3) people i know who started with 4 classes, finished with 1. seriously, each class costs $500! do you know how many
Cazal vintage sunglasses you can get for $1,500!?
colourful sex. (:
remember the post about the
graffiti wall on campus; it had students reactions to the school tearing down trees to build a new digital library? here's an update on that!
To: All staff and students
Taylor Family Digital Library Construction Update effective April 28
A new phase of construction of the Taylor Family Digital Library will begin on Monday, April 28, 2008. For more details, please visit
http://tfdl.ucalgary.ca/2008apr24
An important development is that piling will begin on May 1. This work is unavoidably noisy, which was why it was delayed until exams were over. As it turns out, some exams had to be postponed until May 1, but these exams, because of where they are being held, should not be disturbed by the piling.
Another significant development is that public access to the quad will be restricted, with implications for both pedestrian and vehicle entry. Specifically, all roads and parking in the quad will be restricted, and there will be impediment to the pedestrian walkways between Murray Fraser Hall and Craigie Hall.
We value the personal safety of everyone on our campus and these new restrictions have been put in place for your protection and also for the safety of the on-site workers. We ask all faculty, staff and students to respect the restrictions and, where necessary, find alternative routes. Flag personnel, blockades and signage will be present to help you.
We also wanted to let everyone know more about the removal of trees that occurred during site clearance for the TFDL. The trees, which, because of their age and health, were not able to be transplanted, will be converted to wood chips for use on campus. Before the trees were felled, the girth of each one was measured, and trees that together have equivalent girth to those removed will be planted on campus once
weather conditions are favourable for planting.
We all look forward to enjoying the Taylor Family Digital Library in the future, and the cooperation of everyone on campus will aid in its timely completion. To find out more about the new library and the benefits it will bring to our campus, please visit
