my school cleared our miniature park a few months back so that they could build a new digital library to make up for the current dinosaur of a library. they boarded up the construction site with these plywood sheets, and since then students have been writing things like 'you killed our trees!', 'what about the birds?!', 'trees are our friends' over the boards. the school decided to make these boards an "official talk-back wall" or as they call it a "designated grafitti wall".
personally i think it's a great way of saying, 'students, you've been owned'. i, nevertheless, love the idea.
i took the time today to read the rants with austin, and some were really good and some were simply hilarious. there's austin, in his favourite blue hoodie.
austin decided to make his mark in my picture by showing his hand and his empty bottle.
someone wrote in pink chalk, 'your mom's my friend'
and this one is really witty. the new tagline of calgary (adopted last year) is The Heart of the New West. fyi, alberta is pretty much sitting on billions of $$$ of oil wells.
note the oil barrel. ouch.
the funniest picture by far was when i told austin that i wanted to take a picture with a tree. it was my way of dedicating love to the trees.
"i'll only take it if you get in the tree."
"huh? i can't get IN the tree," i said. "how in the world can anyone get IN a tree?"
"by climbing it?"
"what?!"
"just throw your hands over the branch!"
i reached for the twig above my head.
"not THAT branch..."
"okay. just don't laugh so hard that you forget to snap the picture!"
so there i am throwing my hands around the branch of a tree, and trying to put my foot on the trunk. i am barely hanging on the branch for a second, when austin snaps the shot. this picture is by far, THE BEST PICTURE of my time in calgary. (:
