i wish to share with you how my life has been so quiet without my laptop, BUT somehow better. (:
today, i needed to use a laptop, so i asked a stranger (student on campus) to lend me his.
'hi, could i borrow your laptop? i need to use microsoft word for a bit.'
the group of girls look back at me, and turn their eyes to their friend who sat quietly at the corner of the table.
'erm.' he said, 'okay.' and he flusteredly moved things around so that he could lend me his laptop.
'thanks, i really appreciate this. what time do you have to go?'
the girl replied, '1.30.'
'that's in half an hour.' i say. ok, half an hour - time to get cracking! project's due in a bit.
the minutes close in on 1.30pm, and i forget time.
tap tap tap.
'hmm?' i turn around to see the kind fellow, holding onto his laptop charger.
'i've gotta go for my test now, so... you can use the laptop until i get out.'
'really?' i jump at the opportunity. 'really? thanks! what time do you finish?'
'1 1/2 hours time.'
'i'll be here! tell you what, why don't you leave me your number,' i search for my phone. 'and give yourself a call.'
'okay.'
'what's your name?' i ask.
'choon keong.'
'i'm valerie. thanks choon keong.'
'hi valerie.'
'good luck for your test!'
time flies by, and i'm still working on the radio proposal. looks like we're not gonna finish on time. buggers.
'hey.'
'oh hi, choon keong! how did your papers go?'
'alright, not too good i think. anyway, do you still need my laptop?'
'erm...'
kinda. 'do you need to go?' i start closing the documents.
'no no, if you need it, i'll just study here.' he points at the table next to mine.
'you don't mind? what about your friends?'
he points to the group walking away. 'they're heading home already.'
'oh, don't you want to go too?'
'nah.'
he's so nice.
'great! if you need to go - anytime - you just let me know okay?' i smile gratefully. 'take a seat!'
the day drags on, and on and on. AND we're not done yet.
damn.
we eventually finish at late 5ish.
'choon keong.'
'yeah?' he looks up from his books.
'we're done here. thanks soooo much for lending us your laptop.'
'it's okay, really.'
nice person. everyone, remember choon keong. i would like to give him the award for being one of the nicest people i've ever met. (:
and of course, let me thank all those people whom we've borrowed pencils, rulers and erasers from (dating back since primary school), those who willingly did our surveys (in poly), and those who tolerated our nonsense over the years. (: you are loved.
